Non negative numbers
Introduction :
Non-negative is a property of an number which is real, or a member of a subset of real numbers such as rational and integer numbers. A negative number is one that is less than zero, such as -, -1.414, -1. A positive number (e.g., positive real number and positive rational numbers, positive integers) is one that is greater than zero, such as , 1.414, 1. Zero itself is neither positive nor negative.(Source in wikipedia).
Rules for non negative number
Following are the above rules the negative numbers addition can be made easier to understand.
The negative numbers are less than zero, it is denoted as (-n). The positive numbers are larger than zero that is (n). The zero neither positive nor negative number. The non negative numbers are nothing but which are larger than zero. The non positive numbers are nothing but which are less than zero. The negative numbers are made to have the sign (-) in front of the each numbers.
What About Positive and Negative Numbers Together?
What is 8 + (-4) =4
What is 8 - (+4) =4
What is14 + (+4) = 18
Multiplication:
Negative * Positive = Negative
Positive *Negative = Negative
ADDITION:
If the signs are the identical then you need add the two numbers and keep the Sign.
Positive + Positive = Positive
Negative + Negative = Negative
Dividing Rules:
Positive ÷ Positive = Positive: 24 ÷ 6 = 4
Negative ÷ Negative = Positive: (-18) ÷ (-3) = 6
Negative ÷ Positive = Negative: (-27) ÷ 3 = -9
Positive ÷ Negative = Negative: 24 ÷ (-3) = -7
Worked problems in non negative number
problems in non negative numbers:
+ (+) 5+ (+2) = 5+ 2 = 7
- (-) 8-(-3) = 8 + 3 = 11
+ (-) 12+ (-2) = -12 - 2 = -14
- (+) 14-(+2) = -14 - 2 = -16
Example: What is 9+ (-2)?
From above: + (-) becomes a negative sign.
9+ (-2) = 9 - 2 = 7
Answer: 9+ (-2) = 7
Example: What is -15+ (+3)?
From above: + (+) becomes a positive sign.
-15+ (+3) = -15+ 3
Start at -15 on the number line, move forward 3, and you end up at -3
Answer: -15+ (+3) = -12.
