Help with comparing fractions
Introduction :
The fraction numbers consists of the two numbers such as the numerator and the denominator number. The fraction numbers can be compared with another fraction number to find which is the largest and the smallest fraction. These are determined with the help of the two fraction numbers. Now we are going to see how we are comparing the fractions with the help of numbers.
Help with comparing fractions:
Now we are going to see how we are comparing with the help of the two fraction numbers. The two fraction numbers are taken for calculation. If the denominator numbers are not same, then take L.C.M for the two numbers and then multiply the numerator number with the help of the L.C.M. number. Now the numbers are multiplied and we get the fraction numbers and compare both the fraction numbers. If the numerator number is small then it is the smallest fractional number or else it is the largest fractional number.
Problems to help with comparing fractions:
Example 1:
Compare the two given fraction numbers and find which is larger?
`2/3` and `4/5`
Solution:
Now we are going to compare the two fraction numbers
Let us take the two numbers `2/3` and `4/5`
The denominator numbers are not same. So, we have to take L.C.M number for the two denominator numbers 3 and 5.
`2/3` × `5/5` = `10/15`
`4/5` × `3/3` =` 12/15`
From the above two fraction numbers 12 is the larger number when compare with the number 10. So, the larger fraction is `4/5 ` and the smaller fractional number is `2/3` .
When comparing these two fractions the larger fraction number is `4/5` .
Example 2:
Compare the two given fractional numbers:
` 11/18` and `12/19`
Solution:
Now we are going to compare the two fractions as explained below.
Let us take LCM Math for the denominator numbers as follows,
`11/18` × `19/19` = `209/342`
`12/19` × `18/18` = `216/342`
From the above numbers 216 is larger than 209. So, the fraction number `12/19` is larger than the fraction number `11/18` .
